Miscanthus sinensis ‘Silberfeder’:
Martin took this beautiful photo on a sunny day just last week and I think it shows why grasses, such as Miscanthus, have become so popular over recent years. It has been a brilliant foliage plant throughout the season, but after flowering late in the summer its structure looks magnificent deep in to the winter. A lot of the Miscanthus sinennsis can be a little shy in flowering in our cool summers, but some years ago a whole group were bred in Northern Germany to flower reliably in our latitudes. ‘Silberfeder’ is one of the older ones but still, I think, one of the best.
