Plant of the Week

Salvia ‘Amistad’:

Last week I was lucky enough to show John Massey around the gardens, who runs the fantastic Ashwood Nurseries in the West Midlands.  John is a brilliant plantsman and it was so useful to listen to his experience and suggestions.  When gardeners meet, we always exchange tips on our new plant discoveries and his top recommendation was a salvia called ‘Amistad’.  It is a type of guaranitica and with its purple flowers and black calyx, it really is a stunner.  After our chat, I noted it down in my notebook under the heading ‘plants for next year’, but the next day I received a box of five beautiful plants from John ready for planting.

It was such a lovely gift that I planted them immediately next to the orange Helenium and the combination was most pleasing.  So thanks John for the tips and for the beautiful plants!
