Ipomea lobata is an annual climber also known as ‘the Spanish flag’, due to its red and yellow petals which look like little bells. This climber gives a fantastic fiery splash of colour at the end of a very productive season.
Here at Gravetye, we like to interplant the Ipomea through established plants like salvias and roses and allow it to scramble through naturally. In this instance, it is growing alongside a Virginia creeper, which has created a warm and colourful entrance to the flower garden from the hotel.
