Potatoes, strawberries and Yukon!

Our first potatoes have been harvested, this variety is Swift and is the first ready after 9 weeks in the poly tunnel.

Our strawberry fruit have started to swell,  so we have laid straw down to keep them off of the soil and hopefully away from slugs and snails!

Our pickling onions had very poor germination, so we have replaced with a veg which is new to us this year. Yukon grows similar to a dahlia and the tubers will be harvested in the late autumn. Apparently they have the texture of a water chestnut and have a high sugar content so are very sweet. They are native to south america and the sugars are good ones for diabetics. They will grow to around 2 meters so have been planted through netting to support them as they grow.
